=================================================================================

Do you sometimes feel like having a spot of tea on a lazy weekend afternoon? That’s because I do – hehe! Anyway, today I just wanted to introduce a new brand of tea that I’ve recently started drinking during my random afternoon teas!(:

Betjeman and Barton

About Betjeman and Barton

For almost a century, Betjeman & Barton has reconciled French taste and British refinement, offering one of the most prestigious maps of teas throughout the world. The Betjeman & Barton name is more than a century-old, a brand synonymous with excellence and originality.

In 1919, Arthur Betjeman opened The English Tea House, a small shop specialised in the sale of teas, in Paris. A passionate tea enthusiast, Arthur Betjeman wished to promote in the French capital the tea varieties that were appreciated in London. His undertaking was such a success that he quickly reexported his teas towards England where they built an excellent reputation during the interwar years. As his business had successfully expanded, he decided to go into partnership with Percy Barton, his general manager, and thus founded Betjeman and Barton.

For many years, Betjeman & Barton relied on people with an entrepreneurial spirit. These celebrated tea masters found the best teas from the world’s greatest tea gardens and plantations to establish the company’s reputation and the credentials of tea à la française.

Betjeman and Barton Singapore

Just before Christmas, I dropped by the retail shop to pick up my teas kindly sponsored by Betjeman and Barton Singapore and at the same, check out the shop located at the basement of Raffles City.

For your reference, here’s the address:

I was overwhelmed with the large variety of tea choices available at Betjeman and Barton and was busy coo-ing over the beautiful caddies of which many of the teas were stored in as seen below.

Some of the tea caddies are really pretty – perfect as a gift don’t you think?

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

The Review

Tadaahh! With my bag of lovely goodies from Betjeman and Barton! I was really excited to try the teas because Betjeman and Barton is a world renowned French tea brand so the teas should be really good!(:

Tasting Session

Once again, I must emphasize that I’m no tea connoisseur even though I do enjoy a spot of tea once in awhile, so this tasting session this round involved the bf, myself and his mother!(:

1. Parlez Moi d’Amour (Speak to me of Love)

The first tea we decided to sample us called Parlez Moi d’Amour (Speak to me of Love) which is contained in this 125g pink tea caddy. Oo, just an add-on, I think the caddy’s really pretty and would make the perfect Valentine’s Day gift don’t you think? Hehe 🙂

About The Tea
When the heady jasmine, velvety raspberry, sunny orange flavours and ylang-ylang essential oils are combined with a Chinese tea, it is more than an intoxicating potion for a night of love. As Lucienne Boyer used to sing it, they are “tender things” and we are never tired of “hearing” them… truly, this is a tea to be savoured together!

Our Opinion/Verdict
  • Scent Upon Opening: Strong, sweet orangey smell – smells very fruity
  • Appearance & Smell: Light fragrant smell and a gorgeous, green color
  • Taste:
    – The Bf: Not much aftertaste, lighter than normal. It’s alright
    – The Bf’s mom: Fruity taste and surprisingly not bitter
    – Myself: Like the rest, I agree that there’s a strong fruity taste with a pleasant aftertaste.

If you’re interested, you can purchase Parlez Moi d’Amour (Speak to me of Love) at both the retail store at Raffles City as well as online for S$45.00. Click HERE to purchase online!

2. Orangeraie

The second tea we decided to sample is called Orangeraie which is contained in this 100g bright orange caddy. Speaking of oranges, this reminds me that Chinese New Year is coming soon! So perhaps Orangeraie could be a lovely gift to .. I don’t know – a mother or mother-in-law who enjoys tea? 😛

About The Tea

The sweet orange essential oil combines with a China green tea like an invitation to visit the orange grove – a walk full of gustative surprises.

Our Opinion/Verdict
  • Scent Upon Opening: A very strong orangey/citrus scent hit those nose the moment I opened the caddy. It’s very pleasant when held further from the nose
  • Appearance & Smell: Slight citrus smell and a beautiful golden color
  • Taste:
    – The Bf: Tastes slightly minty. Can taste orange but it isn’t very sweet
    – The Bf’s Mom: Very orangery, reminds me of Chinese New Year
    – Myself: There’s strong citrus taste but I think it’s a very tasty drink that I can spend all day sipping!

If you’re interested, you can purchase Orangeraie at both the retail store at Raffles City as well as online at various prices starting from S$11.00. Click HERE to purchase online!

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

The Verdict & My Thanks

On the whole, I really like both the teas, even though as a personal preference – I like Orangeraie more because of the lovely citrus taste(:

Still, no matter the occasion – be in Chinese New Year, Valentine’s Day, Christmas or even birthdays, I think that tea from Betjeman and Barton makes a perfect gift – especially those in the pretty caddies as below!(:

Lastly, to end off – here’s giving thanks to Betjeman and Barton Singapore for introducing me to the lovely teas! I think I’m hooked on Orangeraie!
